These three wee blue eggs were discovered in a nest that a robin had build in the crook of a tree that we found in our backyard. In a short timeframe of 16 days they have now flown the coop and are fending for themselves.
With the nest being in a tree that was low enough to the ground that I could just peek in to, I could watch all of the action in order to take pictures and short videos as they went from a fuzz ball, to ugly pink fuzz balls with large eyes and massive beaks, to their wings being developed, to black feathered fuzz balls to a baby robin awake and waiting patiently for mom.
And now I have the empty nest feeling but as you can see in the last photo is the remnants of one of the egg shells that now sits on our cabinet shelf and I still get to listen to their songs as they serenade throughout the day.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the robins came back again next year but I'm unsure of if they re-use their nests from one year to the next. Guess I have another year to find out.
