June 24, 2022 International Faerie Day

Well here it is June 24, 2022 and it just happens to be International Faerie Day!

I was trying to figure out a way to both celebrate this wonderful occasion both personally and with you.

Once I started my research, it honestly didn't take me long to decide YES! This is what I need to do. The how and when came together with no hiccups.

Yesterday, starting at about 10:00am (with an hours drive having to be tacked on both directions) and going until just after 3:00pm I walked out celebrating International Faerie Day!

I would like to thank my friend Emy for all of her wonderful creativeness, patience and willingness to try.

Here was how my day went...

My hope is that you find yourself inspired, empowered
and that you'll continue to believe not just in faeries but in your inner you.

Wishing everyone an amazing International Faerie Day!

I am humbled, touched, surprised and in awe of this poem written by a friend, a confidant and a true leader. You have always been filled with surprises and amazing talents, who knew you could write poetry as well? I will treasure this poem forever. Thank you Trish.

THE RIVER FAIRY

While walking through a forest grove down beside the river,
I saw the ferns along the canopy's edge suddenly begin to quiver.

But there was no breeze or other force causing them to wiggle.
And as I paused to ponder that, I thought I heard a giggle.

Then a small figure appeared out from behind an old fir tree.
And a voice whispered in my ear; 'Rejoice, for it is she.'

Black hair flowed over her shoulders, wisps framed her lovely face,
Around each delicate wrist were silver ribbons of spiderweb lace.

Her flowing blue robe rippled at her feet, like waves upon the shore,
Woven petals with sparkling dew drops formed the necklace that she wore.

A kaleidoscope encircling her head made a delightful spinning crown,
The forest birds singing in harmony was the most enchanting sound.

I watched as the beauty, the butterflies and birds of a feather,
Danced in joy and celebration of this joining together.

To give loving thanks to the river for its gifts never-ending,
And embrace the peaceful vibrations the river was sending.

By now the sun had reached the very west edge of the sky,
Pink light let them know that it was time to say good-bye.

But before the birds and the butterflies would set off to go,
Each presented before her and bowed their head low.

As she returned to her tree home, she faded from sight,
And the forest became still as it welcomed the night.

Who invites winged treasures to galas so merry?
Emmanuelle, the River Fairy.

Book Review: Sweetheart Fairies -- Daisy's Rainbow Picnic by Katie Peters

Book Review ...

Sweetheart Fairies -- Daisy's Rainbow Picnic

Author: Katie Peters
Illustrations: Sanja Rescek

Published in 2008 by Scholastic Children's Books
ISBN10: 0439944767       ISBN13: 9789439944762

This book is about Fairy Daisy and her friends baking goodies for their afternoon picnic.

Each page features a different sparkly fruit flip-up flap that hides beneath it a special dessert that each of her friends is bringing along. Daisy used raspberries, Jasmine a peach, Rosies cherries and Lily  blueberries. Doesn't each sounds so delicious and yummy. A story about friendship, hope and love.

It was a nice surprise to find out what had been freshly made and even though it was a secret written under the flap most were easy to guess.

I found the graphics very pretty and the storyline is super cute that keeps the reader engaged right to the last page.

Each Sweetheart Fairy is dressed in little dresses matching the colour of the fruit that they used for their dessert. They each have a sparkly set of leaf wings, shoes and lacy trims on their gowns. Plus, each page features wee critters from butterflies to ants to caterpillars to dragonflies too! Each of these are just as sparkly as their Fairy friend.

The graphics by Sanja is definitely the reason why I purchased this 6 paged hardcovered picture book. The raised sparkles makes this book fall within my guidelines under the touch and feel category.

You can purchase this book through your local bookstore. I did take a look through most of the larger on-line bookstores but either they were all very expensive or out-of-stock.

Daisy's Rainbow Picnic is just one of four in this set of board books. The other titles being Jasmine's Sparkly Surprise, Rosie's Magical Hide-and-Seek and Lily's Twinkle Bedtime. Be sure to check out these other books in this series.

Introducing the Calendar Line of Faeries

and here they are....

Each faerie is fashioned after their represented gemstone colours and at the base of their feet there is a small grouping of flowers that match that month as well. Making them even more special is the four rainbow coloured silk flower petals that has been placed closest to their hearts that bonds each of these faeries together into a single Faerie Line.

These faeries measure approximately 12.7cm (5") in height, have a metallic coloured wired body and 19 layers of coordinated silk flower petals along with four rainbow coloured ones that are closest to their heart shaped bodice bead. They have sparkled wings and their hair is a mix of specialty yarns and flosses that match their dresses. They will come on a wooden base stand that has been signed and numbered along with having the company icon burned into the wood.

Please note that these are collector items ONLY. They are NOT toys. Please keep out of reach of small children as the small parts are a potential chocking hazard.

p.s. don't forget to check out our website to see all of our other faeries. www.faerienursery.com

Happy International Faerie Day

This day is for them, the faeries, this one day of the year... International Faerie Day. The one day that it's okay to say 'yes' I do believe, to dress up, to act like, to just be a faerie yourself.

Well, whether you are a fan of Teresa Moorey and her book titled "The Fairy Bible"; or perhaps you prefer Brian Froud and his book of "Good Faeries/Bad Faeries"; or how about Kelley Heckart and her website "Faery Lore".... I don't think that it really matters whose version or variation you follow, just as long as you know that there are faeries out there. There have been many books, stories, rumours, folktales both in written form and told from one generation to another about the names and definitions of Fae inhabitants that I'm sure one or two of them must have gotten it right or at least lose enough to the truth.

Here is a bit of a history lesson of my adventures on discovering faeries....

I was first introduced to faeries through my girlfriend Patricia, who has unfortunately passed away many many many moons ago now. Setting scene... vanilla scented candles burning, glass of red wine, a warm summer's eve and a purple velvet pouch which inside was Brian Froud's "The Faeries Oracle" book and card set. Patricia asked me to take my time and just shuffle through the cards (face down) until one stood out from the others. So I did as she said, I took my time until one just seemed to speak me. My card, which is as true today as it was back in 2001 was card #36 - Spirit Dance -- Self expression. Freedom. Exploration.

Flash forward to 2010, just newly married and my husband tells me his own stories of what he felt, seen and heard during his experiences with the Fae while he was overseas exploring Scotland, Ireland, England and surrounding areas. This is where I learnt that there are other faeries than what I grew up with.... thank you Walt Disney and Tinkerbell, but that there are the worldly faeries that aren't made of sparkly faerie dust but are more of the trickster, mischievous and not-so-nice type of ones.

Flash forward to 2011 when my husband buys me a book kit by Rachel Haab "Fairies, Petal People You Make Yourself". This was my re-introduction to faeries but now I was making them myself. It was like I had a whole different me, a sparkly me, just waiting to get out.

Flash backwards to 1990 when I had taught myself counted cross-stitch and I discovered the beautiful artwork of tiag (Butternut Road Designs) and Mirabilia. Here, I figured out the the faeries have been with me since my kids were just little. Way back then, they were already speaking to me as I carefully chose the designs that I thought represented each one of my children and then I did more for my family and friends. Now, each room of my house has hanging a picture that I poured my heart & soul into, each one, a faerie spoke to me and told me her story as I was creating her.

for my daughter - Spiritdancer

for my girlfriend Andes - Adia

made for my girlfriend Patricia but will be given to my girlfriend Linda -  Fairy Idyll

So my lesson from the faeries is that they have been with me for years and it took a fellow believer for me to see them with. I dedicate this day to my friend Patricia, who is lucky enough to have been a faerie herself.

Do you have a specific faerie that you feel represents you? When did you remember to believe? Tell me about your experiences with the Fae and I'll share them here on my blog.

These are the 3 faeries that represent me... meet Faerie Amma
