A Clean Mess

i think that the nursery is finally starting to look clean although a few things just might need a bit tending to yet so i do believe that it's list time ~
  • the cobwebs have new cobwebs spun upon them with again new ones again on top of that with another whole layer on top of that although i will say that it's a good thing spiders like to spin their silk in different shades of paint as it certainly does add splash of colour ~ blicky ~ but then colour none the less
  • the dirt pile that was once swept into the corner has upped and managed to find the dustpan itself
  • or how about the ivy that was in such a knotted jumbled mess that it figured out how to actually dance the twist
  • what about trying to erase the pretty pictures that have been drawn on the scattered note pads
  • and then who could forget the tumbleweeds mixed in with the beads that roll aimlessly across the floor ~ i will note though that i have absolutely no idea where tumbleweeds might have come from here in the nursery
  • oh yeah ~ and what about the ball of yarn that had turned itself inside out only to find another knot on the end that was in a different colour
  • then there was that really really really really long purple thread that somehow came across spools of green and pink and yellow threads and the wrapped them so tightly together that they will never be able to be separated
  • how do water the silk flowers that have taken root on the floor
  • what about the coloured markers that have long since dried up but are still so extremely smelly that we use them as incense to keep the nursery smelling fruity
  • and how on earth do you pour the food colouring dyes back into their own matching coloured bottles
that's quite the list and i do know that it will only grow longer and longer as how do you expect to get anything done with a nursery full of faeries?

They were left alone....

Yes, I will take full blame for this one as I had to leave the nursery for a few days. But but but, in my own defence...I did make sure that Sapphire the Pixie lock the faerie dust cabinet so I knew that wouldn't be a problem....I asked Faerie Mia to look after all of the flower petals.....I asked Fae Bella to look after the beads....and I asked Pixie Jinx to look after the paint. I figured I had pretty well everything covered. NOPE! I had forgotten about the yarn buckets! At least they kept the mess centralized except for the odd ball or two that managed to roll off of the table. And yes, if you look close enough...that is me, Faerie Amma right in the middle!!

Faerie Star and her Castle Teacup Nursery

I got these little bowls from a friend that was moving away. Now I know that they are not teacups in the traditional way but they were just too beautiful to not buy.

I had already made Faerie Star a few days ago and posted her on Flickr. As she was not yet listed on Etsy, I started to look around the Nursery to see if there was a way to make her into a Christmas themed faerie so she could fall under the Holiday Collection title.

I have sitting on my painting table, along the back wall, a row of teacups just waiting to be made into nurseries. There at the very end were 4 bowls stacked up all by themselves. I took a look at Star and thought, yes, she should have a nursery.

Now as these bowls have a bit larger top I thought the new faerie castles might just fit on there nicely. And, sure enough. In a matter of minutes I had gathered up mushrooms, flowers, trees and all these little goodies I thought would work well. Once I started to put things together, I knew that there just had to be another little moat. As the only black fimo flower I had, had a orange tinged centre, I pulled out an orange coloured swan. This nursery is even more special as I added 3 of my favourite things, cattails. So now surrounding the pond are the cattails. I love how they make the scene look so real.

Coiled Basket

We this weekend saw me take part in a course to make a Coiled Basket. Rosanna Strong was our instructor, not only is she very creative but a great teacher who had tons of patience.

My basket ended up to be quite eclectic but in the end I feel it shall fit wonderfully in the nursery with all of it's wild colours.

We were provided with lots of different mediums ranging all the way from waxed floss, paper raffia, a variety of yarns, ribbons and embroidery floss.

I even managed to put handles on the sides, not evenly and a bit too small but they are there!!

The centre of the basket did start out rectangular so I'm not quite sure how I ended up with a round basket!! The beginning part is very time consuming and intricate work. It will definitely take a lot of practice to learn how to keep your loops and hoops the exactly tension.

All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend the weekend.

Back Home

Well after a 10 day trip down south to do a massive shopping spree I can guarantee you the nursery is well stocked all the way from new tools, wires, decorations, clear baubles and over 1000 flower heads.

A big thank you goes out to Sherry for her great printing job. We now have our 'adoption papers', disclaimer forms and box labels all ready to be cut.

Slippers for everyone :)
As the nursery likes to be visitor friendly,
I thought it would be nice to have slippers available for guests.

A new book by Faye Durston for inspiration :)

Much needed supplies.
New paints for the company colours and my favourite paint brushes

Pretty coloured wires for bodies!!

Plastic baubles for a new project (it's still a secret)

More wooden boxes for the trinkets to be stored in.
I managed to buy the next size up as well for larger doors.

 Floral foam for the teacups.

Lots of new yarns for faerie hair.
I managed to find the most interesting textures.

And finally but certainly not the least.....over 1000 flower heads!
While in the hotel room I was able to separate most of them into their own little baggies
but as I continued shopping I finally ran out of time.

The next few nights will see me getting these flowers ready to be sorted.

Stringing Me Along

Next package of the day.....the yarn to finish off my little Partridges and their nests :)

As I am no where near a Zeller's where I purchased the yarn for the last sets of Partridges I made last year....I found this beautiful yarn from Mary at brokemary's (ebay). She has the most wonderful selection of yarn I have ever seen! This yarn is very cool, it has about 4 different textures and a mixture of wonderful colours.

This next yarn is for the nests. I will mix it in with the remaining yarn that I had left over from last years project. This yarn is actually quite vibrant in colour tones and has more pink in than you can see in the picture below.
